Decimina - 12V 66mm Garden Deck Light - Stainless Steel

The Decimina 12 volt recessed decking light houses a replaceable 12v MR11 lamp; a smaller version of a standard MR16. A strong 20mm satin stainless steel rim surrounds the 30mm diameter glass lens, which is secured in place with 3 screws. This makes changing the lamp a very simple task.

It also has a very high IP Rating of IP67 so can withstand outdoor weather conditions such as rain and strong jets of water, including being temporarily submerged should there be very heavy rainfall. Once the 60mm diameter mounting hole has been drilled, the stainless steel deck light simply slots into place. Not only can it be used on decking, this versatile recessed light can also be used as a step light, recessed path light or wall light as it can be mounted on virtually any surface.

A lamp is not included , however a 2.5w LED MR11 lamp ( equivalent to a 20 watt halogen) can be purchased as an option ( below ) at an economical price.  MR11 LED lamps will work from a normal 12v A/C transformer as used for 12v halogen lamps. No special LED driver is required.

A clear lens will ensure optimum light output in a spot beam, whereas a frosted lens will reduce glare, diffusing light more softly at a slightly dimmer light output.

All recessed luminaries must have adequate drainage beneath each fitting to allow water to disperse, especially in clay based soil beds. All cable joints must be 100% watertight and there are a number or waterproof transformer boxes and heat shrink cable joint kits on our web site to choose from. We would advise that all connections and transformers be kept above ground where possible as the weakest link in any exterior garden electrical installation is joining cables together. Please ensure that your electrician is NIC EIC certified and has done exterior lighting installations before. Also ensure that all rubber gaskets are clean and dry before screwing down the front glass and bezel for a water tight seal.

Parallel wiring is recommended with this installation

Lamp colour ( Kelvins )

The colour of a lamp is defined as a measurement called kelvins. A standard GLS light bulb in your house would be 2,700 kelvins which is in the warm colour spectrum and a lamp with 5,000 kelvins would be at the very cold white spectrum. Getting the right colour temperature of a lamp does matter as the warm colour wavelength helps to soften the tone of the area and gives a warm soft relaxed feel and ideal for colourful flower beds and rockery areas especially with wooden bark and at the other end of the scale a 4,000 to 5,000 kelvin lamp colour would be used against a light background such as white walls or to accentuate grey blueish foliage in shrubs and small trees.  When you buy a new, energy efficient bulb, keep your application and colour scheme in mind and make sure to buy the bulb with a colour temperature to match. Coloured filters are good to use with the LED bulbs too especially in winter using green filters give the appearance the trees are still in leaf.
