Due to the in built dusk to dawn sensor there is no need to remember to switch the fitting on and off manually, and will generally result in less product maintenance. If Fitted with a bright E27 LED Corn Bulb, this photocell bollard is an ideal and effective way to reduce energy bills yet add security and safety.
The ‘Litetower’ is a modern and durable path light available in heights of 0.4m – 1m and made from 3mm thick Anodised Aluminium giving the appearance of Stainless Steel. These professional bollards are very robust, long lasting and virtually maintenance free.
A clever design feature of the ‘Litetower’ bollard light is that the taller height options have longer heads to stay in proportion aesthetically. The heads are large enough to accommodate many of the E27 LED bulbs ranging from a candle bulb for a low light effect, through to the 20w LED Corn bulb for areas where a very bright light is required. Frosted glass inside the head softens and diffuses the light once it’s illuminated and there is also a mirrored reflector on the inside of the head to enhance the light emitted. Fitting the bulb is simple – the head is threaded so simply screws on and off.
The highly weather proof IP65 path light will look great day or night in any landscape, from small, modern gardens to smart commercial premises. It has a sturdy fixed base with 4 installation holes. If extra stability is needed ‘in-ground root mount’ options are available. The ‘In-ground Root Mount’ bollards are ideal when extra stability is needed. The tubes are manufactured to allow 400mm to be mounted in the ground to then stand either 800mm or 1.0m above ground (dependent on height option). A strong metal anchor bar is supplied and will act as an anchor when set into concrete.
The colour of a lamp is defined as a measurement called kelvins. A standard GLS light bulb in your house would be 2,700 kelvins which is in the warm colour spectrum and a lamp with 5,000 kelvins would be at the very cold white spectrum. Getting the right colour temperature of a lamp does matter as the warm colour wavelength helps to soften the tone of the area and gives a warm soft relaxed feel and ideal for colourful flower beds and rockery areas especially with wooden bark and at the other end of the scale a 4,000 to 5,000 kelvin lamp colour would be used against a light background such as white walls or to accentuate grey blueish foliage in shrubs and small trees. When you buy a new, energy efficient bulb, keep your application and colour scheme in mind and make sure to buy the bulb with a colour temperature to match.
Bollard types and spacing
Bollard lights are available in a massive choice of styles, finish and lamp options. You need to think about how the light will be used for example a small garden pathway, the main driveway or to illuminate steps etc. If you are within 20 km of the coast you should think about using the wooden bollards or marine grade 316 stainless steel. Some bollards have built in LED modules which generally offer lower levels of light (lumens) than a standard LED GU10 lamp or a compact fluorescent lamp. Also it is likely the LED module is a sealed unit and an integral part of the bollard which cannot be replaced if it fails meaning you will have to purchase a complete new bollard. There are bollards that use GU10 halogen lamps and E27 base lamps and they can be changed for LED lamps. The spacing bollards will depend on the lamp output, louvre design, height etc but a general rule of thumb would be no less than 3 metres and no more than 12 metres apart. The shorter distance would be for garden pathways and the longer distance for long driveways.
