E8161 is a stylish 12v recessed light for illuminating steps or patios with a choice of 20-35w halogen lamp or low energy led module. Smoothie is fitted with a frosted lens as standard to diffuse the lighting and the eyelid hood hides the lamp from above when walking past. The light is located by an “O” ring on the body into a sleeve tube so that no external screw fixings are visible. Remember that recessed step lights are in effect recessed spotlights - avoid using them facing viewpoints.

Exterior Low voltage light fittings are the ideal choice for outside lighting projects as they are safe to run compared to a mains 240v supply. The installation of exterior lighting is generally the weakest point and it is therefore imperative that the installer has previous experience of installing the lighting system. All joints must be 100% water tight and where possible keep all transformers above ground. Heat shrink kits and resin filled boxes are available from our web site to complete a good waterproof installation. It is equally important to allow for adequate drainage under each light fitting especially if you are in a clay based soil area where water drainage could be a problem. In these type of areas we recommend you have surface lights rather than ones buried in the ground. Ensure that your installer is NIC EIC certified although this does not mean they have done exterior lighting before. 


Lamp type

MR16 20w or 35w halogen lamp,– 38 degree beam for wider staircases or 60 degree beam for wider coverage of a narrower staircase, path or patio. MR16 warm white LED modules include 3w or 5w for lighting across wider steps; 50,000 life and low energy consumption make them a popular option, they also run cooler and are safe to touch.

Installation 

The plastic sleeve is built into the wall during construction or retrofitted into a hole cut with a coring bit: the light pushes into the tube, where it is held firmly in place by an o-ring, leaving a front plate with no visible fixing screws. Connect input cable to cable from transformer using T9962 cable joint or T9963 cable splice kit.
