Smoothie, eyelid step light, 316 stainless steel, GU10, mains 240v, IP66

The Smoothie E8112 is a stylish Mains 240v recessed light with eyelid constructed from 316 marine grade stainless steel and is rated as IP66. Great for illuminating steps or patios and for use with GU10 low energy LED lamps. Smoothie is fitted with a frosted lens as standard to diffuse the lighting and the eyelid hood hides the lamp from above when walking past. The light is located by an “O” ring on the body into a sleeve tube so that no external screw fixings are visible. Remember that recessed step-lights are in effect recessed spotlights - avoid using them facing viewpoints.

Installation

The plastic sleeve is built into the wall during construction or retrofitted into a hole cut with a coring bit: the light pushes into the tube, where it is held firmly in place by an o-ring, leaving a front plate with no visible fixing screws. Recess depth 120mm Smoothies should not be installed in ground subject to water logging, an IP68 light  should be considered.
Using a single RCD for large numbers of 240v fittings is not recommended due to the risk of nuisance tripping. We advise the use of separate RCD protection for each circuit and a maximum of 12 fittings per RCD. Where a garden lighting installation of more than 12 spike mount or recessed lights per circuit is proposed, we suggest the installation of 12v units with transformers, which results in a significantly higher fault tolerance and reliability in the total installation.

Please ensure that your electrician is NIC EIC certified and has done exterior lighting installations before. Also ensure that all rubber gaskets are clean and dry before screwing down the front glass and bezel for a water tight seal. We would suggest you use a copper grease on the fixing screws to reduce corrosion and make life easier when changing light bulbs.

Lamp colour ( Kelvin's )

The colour of a lamp is defined as a measurement called kelvin. A standard GLS light bulb in your house would be 2,700 kelvin’s which is in the warm colour spectrum and a lamp with 6,000 kelvin’s would be at the very cold white spectrum. Getting the right colour temperature of a lamp does matter as the warm colour wavelength helps to soften skin tones and gives a warm soft relaxed feel and at the other end of the scale a 4,000 to 6,000 kelvin lamp colour would be used in offices or in fast food restaurants to make you feel less comfortable, relaxed and more alert. There’s nothing that can sour your opinion of a LED lamp like buying a 4000K or 5000K bulb when you meant to buy a 2700K bulb, or vice-versa. When you buy a new, energy efficient bulb, keep your application and colour scheme in mind and make sure to buy the bulb with a colour temperature to match.
